Minimizing Scar Damage
During the recovery process, steps can be taken to minimize scarring, such as the use of silicone sheet therapy. After the point of maximum medical recovery has been reached, cosmetic surgery can improve the appearance of the survivor. While cosmetic surgery can help make smaller scars less noticeable, a scar covering a larger area such as one resulting from a scald burn presents greater challenges. In cases where a hypertrophic scar has developed, a technique called scar revision may ameliorate the scar.
